Kindergarten in Holland Park West

Holland Park West World of Learning offers a Queensland Government-approved Kindergarten program in a welcoming, play-based environment that encourages independence, creativity, and confidence. We are located on Marshall Road, perfect for families in Holland Park, Holland Park West, Camp Hill, Tarragindi, Greenslopes and Mount Gravatt.

Our program is enriched with hands-on learning experiences, including sustainability activities such as caring for our centre chickens, recycling initiatives, and nature-based play. We also embed cultural appreciation and inclusivity, with educators from diverse backgrounds incorporating multicultural learning experiences and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into daily activities.

Our Kindergarten program focuses on key developmental milestones, including self-help skills, emotional regulation, social development, and school readiness through structured literacy and numeracy play. We work closely with Marshall Road State School and St. Joachim’s Catholic Primary School, welcoming prep teachers for visits, storytelling sessions, and play-based interactions. These partnerships help ensure a smooth transition to school, building children’s confidence as they take their next step in their learning journey.

“My approach to supporting children in their learning and life journey is to provide love and support to every child, regardless of their personal challenges and upbringing.”

I began my early childhood education and care career in 2008 at Holland Park West World of Learning. I love all aspects of early childhood education and care, but my favourite part is forming relationships with the children and their families. It’s incredibly rewarding to earn the trust of families who rely on your abilities and knowledge to care for and educate their little ones.

I have learned that every child is unique, with different ways of learning and developing. As educators, it’s our responsibility to adapt and evolve our programs to meet these individual needs. My approach to supporting children in their learning and life journey is to provide love and support to every child, regardless of their personal challenges and upbringing. There is no judgement, only understanding and inclusion for all.

Attending a dedicated early childhood education centre like Holland Park West World of Learning offers many benefits. I explain to families that their child’s social skills developed in care are crucial for a successful start to their school journey. Our environment helps children navigate friendships and the emotional challenges they bring.

At Holland Park West, we have a close-knit team that feels like family. Everyone looks out for one another, fostering a cohesive and supportive atmosphere. We ensure families feel supported and offer many opportunities for their input into their child’s care and learning. We listen to their concerns, making them feel heard and understood, and accommodate their different needs. We take the time to talk with families, ask about their weekends and interests, and encourage them to share their family adventures through photos displayed in the children’s rooms.

I look forward to welcoming your family into our wonderful early education centre in Holland Park West.

Our Holland Park Kindergarten’s Philosophy

  • Inclusive environment: We provide a welcoming and supportive space for children, educators, families, and the community, ensuring no one feels disadvantaged or discriminated against. We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and high-quality learning space where children feel valued and celebrated.
  • Diverse educators & cultural learning: Our educators and teachers from multicultural backgrounds share their culture to embed respect, inclusion, and diversity in learning programs.
  • Acknowledging Traditional Owners: Our kindergarten recognises the Turrbal and Yuggera people and incorporates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our daily practices.
  • Guided by approved frameworks: Our educators and teachers use the national Early Learning Years Framework (EYLF) and Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG) to tailor learning experiences to each child’s needs. Inspired by early education theorists like Vygotsky and Erikson, we focus on forming strong bonds with children and families for a personalised learning journey.
  • Family engagement: We encourage meaningful, reciprocal interactions with families to support children’s learning, development and their transition to school.

What your child will learn in Kindergarten

At our Holland Park West Kindergarten, our program is designed to prepare children for school while fostering personal growth. Our key developmental goals include:

Early literacy and numeracy

We introduce foundational reading, writing, and mathematics concepts through engaging, play-based learning experiences that spark curiosity. By integrating these skills into everyday play, children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Emotional regulation

We help children understand and manage their emotions by providing a nurturing environment where they feel safe to express themselves. Through guided discussions, mindfulness activities, and role-playing, they develop self-awareness and coping strategies.

Independence and self-help skills

We foster confidence by encouraging children to take initiative in daily tasks, make choices, and solve problems independently. These experiences build resilience and prepare them for the transition to school and beyond.

Sustainability and environmental awareness

We instill a sense of responsibility and care for the environment by involving children in hands-on activities such as recycling and tending to our centre chickens. Through natural play spaces and discussions about sustainability, they develop an appreciation for nature and their role in protecting it.

Local school connections – Prep transition

We partner with Marshall Road State School and St. Joachim’s Catholic Primary School to support a smooth and confident transition from Kindergarten to primary school.

Throughout the kindy year, you and your child will have access to:

  • School visits: Teachers from these schools visit our Kindergarten children, engaging them in storytelling sessions and interactive play-based activities to help build familiarity and excitement about starting school. These visits allow children to form relationships with future educators in a comfortable and familiar environment, making the transition to primary school easier.
  • Kindergarten Information Evenings: We invite prep teachers to share their insights on ‘school readiness,’ offering families valuable guidance on how to best prepare their child for the move to primary school.
  • School transition statements: Our Early Childhood Teachers prepare detailed Transition Statements for each child, outlining their strengths, interests, and learning progress. These statements are shared with families and schools to support a seamless transition into Prep.

These opportunities ensure that both children and families feel informed, supported, and well-equipped for this important milestone in their educational journey.

Whether you’re a parent who works, studies, or simply needs additional flexibility in your day, our enhanced learning program offers the perfect balance of quality early education and extended care. We provide access to the Queensland Government’s Kindergarten program within a long daycare setting, ensuring children receive a structured, play-based learning experience while benefiting from longer care hours.

Our centre offers flexible long daycare options, with session lengths of up to 9, 10, 11, or 12 hours, catering to different family needs. Frequently asked questions

In Australia, sessional kindergartens or preschools are usually operated by local government, religious organisations, schools, private organisations or the community. They usually run during school term and school hours, meaning the program runs for 40 weeks per year, with most sessions finishing up around 2 pm, over 2-3 days per week.

The kindergarten or preschool program is also offered in long day care centres. Most long day care centres are open from 7:00 AM. to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday with flexible drop-off/pick-up times to better accommodate busy working families. Long day care centres run 52 weeks per year, meaning your child would not miss out on valuable learning opportunities during school holidays.

Nutritional meals and snacks are covered in long day care centres, so you don’t have to worry about packing lunches.

Child Care Subsidy still applies when your child attends the kindergarten programs offered in long day care services. Depending on your state or territory, different funding options can be combined with your Child Care Subsidy savings, making kindergarten or preschool more affordable for your family.

Essentially, there is no difference between the curriculums adopted by long day care and sessional kindergarten or preschool providers. They are both run by qualified early childhood teachers, and they all align with Early Years Learning Framework, focusing on supporting individual children’s development, interests and needs through play-based and intentional learning experiences.

If your child is already settled at a long day care centre, they have the opportunity to stay in a familiar environment, transitioning together with their friends.

To receive the QLD Government Free Kindy subsidy your child needs to turn 4 years old by 30 June 2024 and attend 15 hours per week (minimum 2 days) at our centre.

If your child attended Kindy in 2023 and will complete another year of Kindy in 2024, they will be eligible for the QLD Free Kindy subsidy.

The QLD government is offering 15 hours per week for 40 weeks of subsidised kindy each year.

The out-of-pocket cost of kindy for 40 weeks of the year will be subsidised by the QLD government and reduce your GAP fees after your CCS is applied. This means kindy will be more affordable than ever before for Queensland families.

To access this funding, a child must attend 15 hours per week (minimum 2 days).

During the twelve weeks where the ‘Free Kindy’ subsidy is not applied, your CCS will be applied to your fees to reduce your out-of-pocket costs (as per CCS entitlements in pre-kindergarten years at your centre).

*In order to access the Queensland Governments 15 Hours of ‘Free Kindy’, your child must attend 15 Hours per week. This requires a 2-day minimum attendance.

Example:

Johnny is 3 years old and is turning 4 in March next year. Currently, Johnny attends a 10 Hour Session 3 days per week and is receiving a 72% Child Care Subsidy.

The weekly out-of-pocket cost for Johnny’s parents is $162.42 (Parent GAP $54.14 x 3 days) for 30 hours of care.

Next year, Johnny will opt in to the Queensland ‘Free Kindy’ funded program, where he will access 15 hours per week ‘free’.

Johnny will continue to attend 3 days per week; however, the weekly out-of-pocket cost for Johnny’s parents will be significantly lower due to the subsidised 15 hours of Kindy.

  • 2x long daycare days with 15 hours of funded Kindy (2x $13.54) = $27.08
  • 1x long daycare day (1x $54.14) = 54.14

Therefore, the weekly out-of-pocket cost for Johnny’s parents will drop to $81.21 per week for 30 hours of care. That’s an out-of-pocket savings of $81.21 per week thanks to the Queensland Government’s ‘Free Kindy’!

The 7.5 hours Free Kindy is delivered during our long day care hours at our centres. The QLD government is subsidising 7.5 hours of your long day care kindy day, therefore, there will be a reduced out-of-pocket cost on these days.

Our centres offer long daycare hours, you are welcome to drop off and pick up your child any time during our opening hours.

Your ‘Free Kindy’ subsidy will still apply to 7.5 hour (2 days per week) regardless of your child’s attendance.

The government-subsidised kindergarten hours apply to 15 hours a week over 40 weeks. This will be applied in the same weeks as the state school terms.

All our kindergarten programs run every day of the week. This means families have the flexibility for their child/ren to receive the highest quality learning experiences on days that best support them.

No, you can only access funding at one centre for 15 hours a week over 40 weeks.

This is an additional subsidy from the QLD government that will apply to a portion of your fees after the Childcare Subsidy is applied. The percentage of CCS your family is entitled to for non-kindergarten program hours will not change.

Good news for families who are not eligible for CCS. The QLD Government will subsidise the 15 hours per week of Free Kindy for 40 weeks per year. Outside of these subsidised hours, full fees will apply.

All our kindergarten programs follow the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), a national learning framework for Australia. These programs are informed by qualified and passionate Early Childhood Educators and Teachers. Our Curriculum accommodates each individual child’s learning, development, and well-being.

Kindergarten provides a unique time for children to further develop their positive dispositions to learning, oral language skills, and social/emotional and physical capabilities.
